Using Modroc

Modroc is a material that is very similar to other materials such as; clay and plaster. But, however, Modroc comes in rather large rolls (first they're dispatched differently but cut to size for convenient use) in which you cut small sections off to then dip into water. After you've dipped the Modroc into the water, you've instantly activated the powdered-paper-like material and converted it to a plaster-like material.

The main issue when using Modroc is that the material gives off a powder cloud into the atmosphere which is harmful to your health. The other issue you may face when using Modroc, although isn't especially as sever, it can be very messy. By saying 'very messy', I genuinely mean it will splat absolutely everywhere. It is EXTREMELY difficult to get off of surfaces/clothing, so when you do come in contact with it, you must be extremely careful if you're in something you most certainly don't want to ruin. Along side the first problem you may face, is allergy. As Modroc is a relatively harsh material, for sensitive skin users, you may find it does bring out your allergies (for example; for me personally, I wore gloves due to my hand-on-hand contact with the material flared my hands up in rashes.
Although Modroc doesn't look particularly harmful, when misused it could potentially make you lose digits! Yes, if you're formally incapable to piece together "putting your entire hand in Modroc, leaving it to set" and then not being able to get it out afterwards/feel like your hand is in a toaster as the chemical reaction occurs, you really need to re-evaluate. I mean, come on...If you do have an idea to cast a mould of, for example; your hand, wrap it completely in something such as cling film so that when you come to detach the mould, you don't rip all your hair out. (ouch.) Also, leave a relatively large gap so you're able to slide the part out, or you might have well of just cut your arm off instead of making a cast of it. Yep.

On a less serious note: We did exactly that! Following safety precautions, we cast-modelled our arms. Here's the final image of what the cast ended up as:

Also, we created something using wire (Make sure you use eye protection with wire; don't want to be spearing them eyeballs out...) I made a flower:
