Learner Survival Guide

The 'Learner Survival Guide' project introduction and initial ideas.
To begin with, we've been told a breif over-view as to what we generally need to do to complete this project. The breif was; [to] create a front/back cover for the 'LSG'. It must be interesting and appeal to the ideal target audience (being students between the ages of 16-19 mainly.)

The beginning of my ideas:
I have decided that it would be a good idea to research into flyers and leaflets in which are made to appeal to the target audience we need to create this based on. My instant thoughts were bands and small bands/events that I've myself been intrigued into due to their flyers and post-boards.

  • DETESTIVAL:
Detestival is an event which I've attended myself before they upped the age boundaries. This is their flyer and advertisement banner which I find to be extremely intriguing and instantly grabs the attention of their audience.
I find that, the fonts used and the colour scheming is very relevant to what they're advertising which instantly grabs the intended audiences. Although my LSG isn't for the same audience, I think this could potentially inspire my cover as the typography is very fresh and 'youthful'. Also, the over-all concept of it being relevant is a great reminded to stay on task instead of splurging out irrelevant ideas.

  • KID ACNE
Kid Acne is a street artist from Sheffield who also involves himself in illustration. The following images vary from main illustration and his street art.

Kid Acne's work is very interesting and grabs your attention. Acne's specific writing style is somewhat youthful and he has extremely quirky idea's and illustrations. Acne also uses very simplistic designs and block colours, which makes them even more interesting. I find them very inspirational and I will definitely show some form of incorporation when finalising my idea. the main reason as to why I like them, is because I really like how quirky yet simplistic they are.

  • PHLEGM TURIN
Phlegm Turin is, like Kid Acne, a street artist but uses very strange, questionable designs which are rather complex and in-detailed. The following images are of his street art across the UK.

Of course, his designs are very illustrative also, which seems to be my main theme! I find illustrations are very now and youthful which is definitely something to consider. I really like how Turin uses such complex and questionable ideas without it looking boring and too messy to even consider contemplating their meaning. I find that they are very interesting and definitely allow the imagination to run wild.

  • BAND/EVENT FLYERS
Band and event flyers are really good to consider when building up to a final piece for this project as they are a definite indication of what people generally like as they're 'successful' events. However, some may be targetted at a very different audience, the over-all concept and intention is very similar!

All of the flyers above are ones that caught my eye and flyers which made me feel inspired to incorporate slight parts from theirs into my own. I think they're all very creative, inventive and what I'm basing my ideas somewhat around. (I especially like the 'south yorks' one because it's actually Sonic Youth. It was also created by Kid Acne!)
