Although, I do have my heart set on MMU or Leeds, I decided to attend the trip to Lincoln Uni. I wasn't overly gobsmacked at the work that was present and the atmosphere wasn't as expected, but some of the work really made me interested. I absolutely loved the work in the illustration room!
Rachel Avalia Tatham's work was my favourite. I loved the use of pastel colours and the way they appeared very subtle. They were all inaccurate illustrative pieces, which I have always loved the look of and they reminded me of an emotive hardcore bands album artworks (Empire! Empire! (I was a lonely estate) )
We also stumbled across a vintage shop on the way up steep hill that had 2 home-developed vinyl tracks and on them were illustrative piece's by the creator. This was 'Sam Harrison' and his art is that of simple-yet-interesting and definitely caught my eye. I love the use of colour and the way that they symbolise what's on the vinyl themselves! The first was of a man crossing his fingers behind his back and the second of a lady with tattoo's and a cross hanging from her arm. Both have 'brain splatter' coming from their heads, which I thought was a nice way to express the depth of his Vinyl's themselves.
We also spiced up the children's walls a little by adding our own doodles on them in the Gallery and also adding our own poems (a.k.a wrote song lyrics from the most emotional song we could think of as the lady who worked there lurked around us like a fly on faeces) and stuck them amongst the rather happy quotes of 7-year-olds expressing their love for their pet goldfish and how wet it was...
It was a fun, tiring day and I definitely learned something...That something being; don't allow me and Matt loose with colouring crayons and a pre-drawn vase.
