Comic book inspiration

This horrendously over-exposed photo of these two comics I picked up from Indie Arcade, Sheffield, are an example of what's inspired me to do a relatively detailed front cover. Although I'm pretty sure the artist who did the front covers used a different technique and materials as a whole, it has inspired me to do a more detailed front cover as oppose to just a regular comic styled front cover. I am planning to do a black and white front cover with a coloured background and it be very detailed with dot work. Next time, if I was to re-do my comic, I would actually consider spending a long time on the front cover too (since that is what draws people to the story in the first place) and I would use paint/pastels just like the creator of Shade did.
I think the creator of Shade knew that, by doing it very, very detailed, basically a piece of art within itself, would draw in the customers. I think that it is a very effective was because it makes it look like the creators have really engaged in their creation and developed something that could be very boring and bog-standard to be exciting, artistic and very beautifully created. I particularly like the first man labelled "Guilt" because I think it looks really interesting and very illustrative-meets-fine art. It looks very interesting and the man is very surreal and bold (almost unnerving.) When you open up the comics, they are very ordinary and use a lot of simple line work, which is why I think they took so much time on the front covers! To set the scene for the following comic.
