Dmitry Maskimov is an artist from Russia that combines both illustration and photography. His work is out of the ordinary and is extremely interesting. He likes to use this character as the base and has extended the character further into more styles. Maskimov appears to try to convey peace and passion conflicting with photography of rather drastic (or ironic/playing on films) in his imagery.

This image (I depict although it isn't directly stated) is play on King Kong, because King Kong is portrayed to be a very violent, angry but slightly fragile individual and I think he's trying to portraying as a loving character who actually craves affection. This being said, he's cleverly illustrated the gorilla hugging affectionately the empire state building! |

This is of a young girl with the small, very cute illustration behind the door. He has cleverly blended the character into the background and behind the glass, to make it appear as if it is genuinely behind the glass and looking at what the young girl is looking at. |

This one portrays a very sad, daunting feeling because the character is looking directly at you and you feel as though he's lost in his own mind. It appears as if he's in the rain and the background is a blurred street, therefore you can't really see if it is raining in the background making the perfect blend for the characters persona to come through with the whole image. The shadows on the character and the colour/shadings make it unnervingly realistic and genuinely makes you feel uncomfortable with sadness (or maybe that's just me...oopsies.)
I plan on using both illustration and photography because I feel very inspired by this artist. Although I wont be doing it quite like this and as well because it's far too late in the assignment to consider doing it in the fashion, but I definitely want to experiment further with this when I get the chance to. I'm planning on hopefully trying to convey emotion through the over-all composition quite like Maksimov did in his art pieces! I really love his combination and I think he successfully makes everything very aesthetically pleasing and does an incredible job of making it look as though they are genuinely there. |
